ST1 Group Welcomes New Director, Gemma Locke

ST1 Group is delighted to welcome Gemma Locke as Director, bringing over 20 years of construction industry experience to the Group’s leadership team.

Gemma’s career began with RG Carter, where she spent five years as a trainee while completing a part-time degree in Quantity Surveying at Nottingham Trent University, followed by another five years delivering commercial projects for Waitrose, Tesco, and Lloyds TSB. She later moved into the conservation and restoration sector, working on landmark projects including Ely Cathedral, Audley End House, IWM Duxford, and Framlingham Castle, before taking on a leadership role within a specialist subcontractor, managing a team of six surveyors across regional offices.

Gemma’s new role at ST1 Group will see her provide commercial and contractual support to clients, while mentoring the internal team to help drive business growth.

“I’ve had the opportunity to work across multiple sectors and with both large and small contractors, and that’s given me a broad understanding of how different parts of the industry operate,” Gemma explains. “I’d worked with ST1 Group previously and was impressed by their practical, hands-on advice. Joining the team now feels like the perfect fit.”

In her first year, Gemma aims to strengthen client relationships, support colleagues’ professional growth, and complete the final stage of her Diploma in Arbitration. Long-term, her goal is to build a team culture where curiosity and collaboration thrive:

“There are no stupid questions — ask more! I want to create a team that shares knowledge, learns from each other, and isn’t afraid to challenge ideas constructively.”

Andrew Silley, Managing Director at ST1 Group, said:
“Gemma’s appointment is an exciting step for the business. Her leadership style, practical mindset and commitment to mentoring align perfectly with our values. We’re thrilled to have her on board.”

When she’s not working, Gemma enjoys walking her dog and outdoor swimming — a balance that keeps her refreshed and ready for new challenges.
