Great Turnstile House
Holborn Façade Refurbishment, Central London
Construct1, part of the ST1 Group, were appointed as main contractor to deliver the refurbishment and redecoration of a six-storey façade in the heart of Holborn, Central London. The existing HPL rainscreen cladding had reached the end of its service life, and Construct1’s scope involved its complete removal and replacement with a high-performing, insulation-backed Sto Render system. The new façade not only achieved A2-s1,d0 fire performance, but also provided enhanced thermal efficiency and a modern, refreshed appearance befitting its central London location.
Working within a narrow, high-traffic pedestrian passage, the project demanded meticulous planning and coordination. A full-height scaffold with a protection fan and walkway was installed to maintain safe access for residents and the public throughout the works. With the building fully occupied, Construct1 ensured continuous communication with residents while delivering additional works including new glazed balconies, replacement windowsills, parapet cappings, and localised waterproofing. The team’s detailed approach to load management and structural planning—particularly in relation to the retained 1900s hollow clay pot floors—was key to the project’s safe and successful delivery.
